Rajisthan is in India, known for its' high quality silver craftsmanship. It is not uncommon to find jewelry from India, Yemen and other parts of the Middle East in East Afrika. Trade between these regions has existed for thousands of years. The cornaline d'aleppo (large red beads made with gold) are antique layered Italian glass beads traded mainly in West Afrika. Red, eye beads of Italian origin, are from a broken Oromo (Ethiopia) necklace worn by girls durjng their rites of passage. White hearts, small red beads with white centers also Italian. Ndali brass beads. These are very plain, but interesting. The Ndali are a traditional indigenous people of Tanzania. These beads were were created during the late 29th, early 20th century from telegraph wire (source: Nimba Gallery, 1969).
