We Buy Black and SheaMoisture have teamed up to bring the culture the Black Business Relief Fund. After reviewing 3588 applications carefully, we have settled on 20 awardees, each awarded a $5,000 grant. The 19th business is Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours, an excellent business that is totally worthy of this honor.
Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours is a full service restaurant in the Midtown section of Atlanta, Georgia. They provide a full service restaurant and bar, as well as full service catering. Twisted Soul is known for its Southern cuisine and draws people who enjoy creative culinary experiences, along with craft cocktails and beers. The restaurants has been profiled in several magazines and on the Food Network. Chef Deborah VanTrece was voted Atlanta’s best Chef for 2019. Twisted Soul’s uniqueness comes from their Chef’s international experiences, traveling and cooking. Her concept is built on the premise that every country has it ‘Soul Food’ and at Twisted Soul, they bring a bit of that in their dishes.
Twisted Soul Cookhouse and Pours operates under the belief that it is their responsibility to use their blessings to help others. They are known for providing assistance to the community. Through their work with Songs for Kids, they provided free meals to government workers and their families, during the government furlough. The company has donated time and meals for various organizations, such as Zami NOBLA, 100 Black Women of Atlanta, the AIDS Foundation and many others. Most recently, the company’s takeout menu was made “Pay What You Can,” to assist workers in the service Industry. In addition, Twisted Soul has partnered with Atlanta Jobs with Justice to provide 150 lunches for Grady Hospital workers. The company will continue to seek opportunities to feed frontline workers during this time.
With restaurants being forced to close, Twisted Soul is now fighting to survive. More than anything, the company would like to ensure that their employees will still have a job. They have gone from a full service restaurant to strictly takeout. Twisted Soul has lost more than 85% of their revenue and the catering aspect of their business has come to a complete halt. Twisted Soul was started with $70,000 and a lot of used equipment. The company remodeled its space with sweat and tears, doing it the hard way. All of that could very well be lost, without some radical intervention. Fortunately, We Buy Black and SheaMoisture have stepped up to give the company a little more to work with.
