Second Skin

Have you ever thought of your clothing as a second skin? Sylvester Ndhlovu, the founder of RavuAfricWear, does. When explained, it makes complete sense. Ndhlovu states, “…clothes are like our second skin and [the] majority of us are walking around with a Eurocentric second skin.” He no longer wanted to wear White-owned brands as his second skin, so he established a Black-owned brand in 2015. Now, you can get your second skin from RavuAfricWear.

Hilfiger, Claiborne, Gucci. The aforementioned brands are all well known. You can find most modern artists sporting these brands at any given moment. But as Ndhlovu stated, these brands do not represent our culture nor our history. RavuAfricWear is a clothing brand that enables us to celebrate who we are and show pride in our Blackness. But the brand doesn’t stop there. RavuAfricWear is one of the first brands to introduce an African-print-themed line of workout gear. With their line, they are not only promoting African pride but health and wellness as well. RavuAfricWear, We Buy Black, Black-owned clothing line, Black pride, African print, Black excellence

Standard of Beauty

Advertising dates back to Ancient Kemet. However, since the first paid advertisement was shared with others in 1836, European features (pale skin, blond hair, blue eyes) have been the standard of beauty. RavuAfricWear is rewriting the narrative of fashion and beauty, however. The Black community is now able to exhibit African prints through fashion where, previously, we would not have been able to. And now, Blackness can become another standard of beauty. Browse through these images and see for yourself, just how dope and imperative RavuAfricWear is: RavuAfricWear, We Buy Black, Black-owned clothing line, Black pride, African print, Black excellence RavuAfricWear, We Buy Black, Black-owned clothing line, Black pride, African print, Black excellence RavuAfricWear, We Buy Black, Black-owned clothing line, Black pride, African print, Black excellence

Future Plans

In the near future, Ndhlovu hopes to sell RavuAfricWear all over the world in mostly Black-owned boutiques. He also plans to build relationships with suppliers and manufacturers in Africa with the hope of building a sustainable, self-efficient Black economy. For now, if you’d like to shop RavuAfricWear, click here. And don’t forget, by using their promo code “WeBuyBlack”, you can get 10% off of all purchases. You can even use it multiple times since this discount code has no expiration date. Don’t wait. It’s time to step into your new second skin.
