Unfortunately I was unable to watch the Grammys last night, I only have access to Hulu and Netflix in my house. For years I really haven’t been into any awards show because I find them to drag a bit, but in the words of Issa Rae, “I am always rooting for everyone Black.” Blacks bring that special kind of spice to any award show we attend, we just can’t help it. We have that special swag that separates us from others. We show up fierce and unapologetically. We are humble and thank God for our overflow of blessings. So if you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past 14 hours (or don’t have cable like me), below are the winners/categories/performances that shut the house down.
I think everyone was looking forward to this performance. Since this fresh 90’s theme video came out, it’s become everyone’s favorite jam. We have to admit that Cardi B may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but 2017 was definitely HER year, and she’s been working hard non-stop to achieve what she’s wanted for years. Before I get the curse out of all curse outs, stating how “Cardi isn’t Black so why is she own this post?”, she is half Trinidadian, so we can support.https://youtu.be/6OcOO1k-vGE Best Traditional R&B Performance: “Redbone” — Childish Gambino
Childish has a Maxwell, Prince appeal to him, but adds his own sense of style to the words. Gotta love him!https://youtu.be/ytsZFYMGl0w
I think every woman I know has a crush not only on Kendrick but his music as well. He says what people think and turns that Black truth into a song that can’t be touched by any other artist. Congrats Mr. lamar, if anyone deserves this, you definitely do; I get goose bumbs just thinking about what this man will accomplish over the next couple of years
Best Rap Song: “HUMBLE.” — Duckworth, Asheton Hogan and M. Williams II, songwriters (Kendrick Lamar)
Best Rap Album: “DAMN.” — Kendrick Lamar
Best Music Video: “HUMBLE.” — Kendrick Lamar
Best Rap Performance: “HUMBLE.” — Kendrick Lamar
Best Rap/Sung Performance: “LOYALTY.” — Kendrick Lamar featuring Rihanna
Sza performed for the first time at the Grammys, and the internet was a bit pissed off to say the least that she lost all 5 nominations. But I think she is excited to have at least been nominated, her time will come. I’m sure of it…
DJ Khaled/Bryson Tiller/Rihanna performed Wild Thoughts and I think everyone was here for Rihanna’s glow and thickness. 2017 was definitely her year, between non-stop hits, Fenty taking over the beauty industry, and her amazing fashion outfits, I am here for all of ithttps://youtu.be/0cZLo3AAan4
Let us not forget our Gospel queen CeCe Winans with her 2 winnings, and The Weeknd.
Best Gospel Performance/Song: “Never Have to Be Alone” — CeCe Winans
Best Gospel Album: “Let Them Fall in Love” — CeCe Winans
Best Urban Contemporary Album: “Starboy” — The Weeknd
So did you all watch? Who did you think should have won?
