Houston Black Restaurant Week this year features 31 Black owned restaurants. The event, from July 10-19, is the ultimate culinary experience, featuring an amazing array of restaurants, caterers, food trucks and chefs. In celebration of five years in Houston, Black Restaurant Week is offering a $500 cash prize for simply eating at participating locations and voting on their website. If you’re anywhere near Houston, you’ll definitely want to grab a plate.

Black Restaurant Week is a multi-city culinary movement celebrating Pan-African cuisine. In addition to spotlighting amazing food from Black owned restaurants, the movement supports FARMS, an organization that seeks to help protect aging Black farmers from abusive practices and relieve hunger in rural communities. Along with amazing food, this year Black Restaurant Week features fun activities, cash prizes and much more. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the broader climate of protest have also shaped this week’s events. There will be an extensive focus on bringing awareness to consumers, along with generating economic impact for Black restaurants and farmers.

This year’s $500 cash prize will be announced during the Black Plate Awards on July 20 streaming live on 97.9 The Box and Majic 102.2 Facebook pages. Whether you win the $500 or not, you’ll definitely want to participate in Black Restaurant Week in Houston. This event is unique, tasty and absolutely empowering for our community.
