Middle Schooler Brothers Run A Bakery & Take College Courses

Shane and Nigel Mushambi of Missouri City, Texas are anything but ordinary middle schoolers. After winning a local baking competition for three straight years, the pair started Two Bros. in the Kitchen. The two brothers make a variety of treats, ranging from chocolate dipped pretzels to exquisite cakes. In addition to making noise in the kitchen, Shane and Nigel are very active as students and young citizens. They are published authors and have even started taking college level courses. These brothers are for real.

Shane and Nigel have donated hundreds of meals to the homeless. The pair partners with non-profit organizations to provide those meals and toys for kids. In addition, they contribute funds for medical care. They are currently working with the J.B. Dondolo Foundation to raise funds for repairs to a Zimbabwe hospital. The brothers feature a Pay-It-Forward program, allowing customers to buy an extra Cake In A Jar, which they distribute randomly. As they run their business, the brothers keep a sharp eye on their social impact and that is certainly commendable.

The brothers are also quite scholarly, having become published authors. Their book is titled, Beyond The Kitchen: How to Cook up Success with Life’s Mistakes. The book is meant to inspire others, using lessons learned on the pair’s journey to entrepreneurship. In addition, the brothers have an excellent track record in the classroom. As an 8th grader Shane had already started college coursework in math and engineering, at Houston Community College. As a 7th grader, Nigel is already taking pre-calculus. Not bad for two kids not yet able to drive a car or see rated-R movies.

Two Bros. in the Kitchen is way more than baked goods and sweet things. The business is about social impact and an unapologetic devotion to Black excellence, from two brothers that aren’t afraid to push themselves beyond mediocre, even at a young age. Their early success is certainly exciting but the greatest part of their story is the simple fact that it’s just beginning. We have no clue what Shane and Nigel’s ceiling is, only they can give an answer to that.
