Turn on your TV, Read a magazine, Look for active wear, Or browse Instagram for anything related to Yoga.

“What do you see?”

Black people are not the face of Yoga. Right? Comment below to let me know any brand that has a melanated person as a face of Yoga.

Well, we need Yoga too and we practice Yoga too!

Yoga does not exclude anybody from its multiple benefits. We are no different when it comes to mental health problems or personal issues compared to the rest of the population. Mental health is as much as important as physical health. We have to take care of ourselves. According to the Health and Human Services office of Minority Health, African Americans are 20% more likely to experience serious mental health issues than the general population. And I guarantee you that…

Yoga takes care of the mind and the body.

Let’s first talk about the body.

-It helps building your muscle and joint strength -It helps improving your flexibility

-It helps improving your body posture and protecting your spine -It increases your blood flow and boosts your immunity.

I just covered few important lines, let’s talk about Yoga and the mind now. Before starting to cite here, Yoga will for sure make you happier, gives you peace of mind and sets you free.

– Yoga will help you to boost your self-esteem -Yoga will heal your mind by helping to decrease anxiety, stress – Yoga encourages self-care – Yoga boosts your confidence, yes you can and yes you can do anything – Yoga is therapy, psychology and a healing tool by helping you to build a deep and real relationship with yourself.

Being black in this society can be stressful at times and Yoga will sure save you . Practicing Yoga is taking care of the body and mind all at once through meditation, asana (postures) and pranayama ( breathing).
