DYING ON MY FEET (PARTIAL) SYNOPSIS

    Melvin Lars

THE MIRROR REFLECTS AND IMAGE, BUT THE SOUL HOLDS THE TRUTH…!

we start to die from the moment that we are born!

Most individuals would say that Lars had it all. he was a picture of health, he had received accolades for having been admired as a better than average athlete, He was a Golden Gloves heavyweight boxing champion by the age of 17, both his high school and college football coaches felt that he possessed the ability to become a professional football player, he conducted himself respectfully and stayed away from trouble, he began working at the tender age of twelve (12), helped to financially support his family, as well as providing protection and ensuring a safe environment for his family.

He was lauded and respected by his instructors for his academic participation in the classroom and was civic minded and respectful. Melvin also thought that his life would be one of longevity.

He felt this way because of his “Clean” life style and his lineage. He witnessed his Grandmother, Joanna, lived to be one-hundred, six (106) years old, his dad’s mother and great-grandmother, Ocie, lived to be one-hundred, eleven (111) years old, his mother’s grandmother.

He did not and does not consume alcoholic beverages, smoke or dip any type of tobacco, inject or consume steroids, snort, shoot, nor ingest any form of drugs, legal or illegal. Nor did he use any “recreational or medical marijuana.”

Unfortunately, several of his uncles, his brother and two of his aunts; seriously indulged in and some of them abused, both “recreational/legal” and illegal drugs.

His disdain for “substances” grew even stronger as he observed them and their struggles with various substances; he vowed never to consume “recreational” or illegal substances of any kind.

Can you imagine; laughing, talking, and not having a care in the world at 11:30 Am., and within a two to three hour window; you progress from preparing for a Friday night football game to literally receiving news that you are in a fight for your life?

Cancer, six of the most dreaded combinations of the twenty-six letters of the alphabets that one can encounter.

Twenty eight years ago he was diagnosed with having; Acute Promyelocitic Leukemia, a rare and incurable blood cancer. He was given less than a five (5%) percent chance to survive this life threatening illness.

Having been an individual that was very staunch about remaining Drug and Alcohol free, having received a medical diagnosis of this magnitude, clearly, caught him off guard, causing him severe anxiety and depression.

Both; devastation and consternation accompanied this discovery. He never defiled his body with, legal nor illegal drugs of any kind; no cigarettes, no steroids, no alcohol, no tobacco, no “powders” from the health food store or any other store.

“Dying On My Feet My Journey Times Two,” will inspire, excite, and captivate you, strengthening your quest for success.

It will awaken your intrinsic greatness and empower you with the will to persevere as it walks you through a path of rocky challenges, whose sharp edges may appear to be un navigable pot holes of doom, only to have you realize the brightness of your future as you rein victorious as you grow and become and remain the conqueror that you are!

    Testimonials

Pat Piazza: English instructor, Counselor, Evangel Academy

Melvin, I really enjoyed your book, although I must admit, it was really hard to read. I’ve always had a lot of respect for you; I have even more respect for you know. It had to have been difficult to deal with all of the things that you guys had to endure. I can’t imagine having had to go through that. It brought memories of my dad, he used to own a grocery store too and he made sure that the vegetables were fresh and that people were fed even though some of them could not pay. What a great book, everyone should read it.

I loved it. Some parts were difficult to read because they were such painful times. Makes me admire you even more. The part about the grocery store owner was awful but made me proud of my dad. He had ticket books for families and always let them charge their groceries. Thanks again for sharing your remarkable story!  Pat Piazza; Academic counselor, Evangel Academy, Shreveport, La.

I just want to thank you for sharing this amazing book with me and millions of others. Just when I felt like giving up and throwing in the towel, I read your book and it gave me the strength to keep going.

Your love and faith for God is so strong, until I felt it myself as I read your book.

Through it all you kept the faith and you held on to God’s unchanging hand and I just want to thank you…, keep doing what you are doing and be blessed!

Dr. Milton L. McGrew; Pastor, Friendship Baptist Church, Benton, La:

Man…, I love your book; I never knew all of that about you and how you've persevered throughout your life. I can hardly put it down; I’m almost through reading it. I’m gone give it to my daughter to read after I finish, she really needs to read it. Man that book is good; I am really enjoying it…!

    Jeremiah “Rev” Coleman:

Chief, this is a powerful book man; we have a genius right here among us. The way you express things and make it so clear is amazing. I usually don’t read much, but man…; I have a hard time putting your book down. This book should do very well, If a guy like me that don’t read much is smitten, I know people that read a lot will enjoy it.

  • The Poetry Book About M.E.: Melanin Experience

This book was written to take us through the journey and challenges with being black. History reveals that the black man and woman around the world face tragic and sometimes fatal oppression. This book illustrates the emotional, mental, and physical impact that racism and dehumanization causes the black soul. The true intension of this book is to speak out and speak up about the inhumane actions against the person of color. To promote the awareness that is in dire need of these conditions. History repeats itself. We're trapped in this perpetual racial cycle because  the views are basically the same that it has been throughout history. But  now, it's time to leave the views from the past, in history, and move towards a better day. A better day that present in today. Not in the past. Not in history.
