If you’re anything like me and you love the smell of frankincense, it’s an easy fragrance to fall in love with. But did you know that you could chew it too? In this description, I will attempt to explain how Frankincense has been good for me and why it will be good for you too.
About 10 years ago I had a tooth pulled. I hated it. Mainly because a part of me was gone forever. But when I spoke to people I knew, they all had their teeth pulled at some time too and my dentist and his assistants all said they had cavities. It was made to feel normal when in fact poor oral hygiene is a systemic problem and the cause for many diseases. Now I’m no expert but it seems to me that a dentist with cavities isn’t a good dentist, but I guess it depends on when he got the cavity.
So more to my point, about five years ago I found out that frankincense could be chewed and by doing so came many benefits. Three of the benefits I noticed after chewing was that my breath was fresh. And then one time I noticed my gums were bleeding and about 20 seconds into chewing, the symptoms were gone. It also worked on a canker sore I felt coming on. I don’t know about you but as for me I was amazed by these results so I decided to do further research and stumbled across a 2014 controlled university study titled: The Effect of Using Frankincense (Boswellia sacra) Chewing Gum on the Microbial Contents of Buccal/Oral Cavity. This substantiated my claim that frankincense indeed is a cure.
Bad breath is an issue that should be handled holistically (I mean as a whole and should be discussed with your health care professional) but the common denominator with bleeding gums and an ensuing canker is… now take a guess??? The answer is inflammation. So guess what’s been proven to fight bad breath and inflammation? The answer is boswellic acid and that is the main component in frankincense. If mastication of frankincense intrigues you or seems somewhat foreign to you, then you should reference Günther Kunkel’s book entitled: Plants for Human Consumption: An Annotated Checklist of the Edible Phanerogams and Ferns.
