Winston's eyes were always bigger than his tummy, but their was just something magical about his aunt's Callaloo. Surprised that he has eaten all of the Callaloo she's just made, his aunt sends him on an errand to get more ingredients for another pot from Irene's Roti Shop. On his way, Winston gets distracted and decides to indulge in eating more. That's when he is suddenly transported to his grandma's house on the Caribbean island of Tobago where he must learn a lesson about his greed or suffer the consequences.
The first book in the Callaloo series, Callaloo: A Jazz Folktale (2014) introduces audiences to Winston and his huge appetite for his auntie's famous Callaloo. Winston encounters well-known characters from stories told throughout Caribbean folklore en route discovering the error of his ways. Winston must indeed learn a lesson or remain trapped on the island to wonder for all time.
