Details

Tyrone Givens created this book series in order to serve as an educational tool for those who have an interest in afrocentric, historical events. A book series that has been accepted into the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. First and foremost, the intention of this series is to inform the reader of relevant historical facts. The secondary purpose is to entertain the reader with a science fiction story that will hold their interest while presenting names, dates and facts that are essential to understanding the nature of events that lead to the change in their condition from approximately 3500 BCE to present date. This book series is intended for all readers above the age of thirteen, adult and teenager alike. Both the student of history and the novice, who has just begun the journey to self awareness, will enjoy this series for the wealth of information contained within as well as the rich science fiction aspect of the story told.

The African community, both continental and diaspora, needs its own heroes. Tyrone Givens did this for that cause, and for the Melanated children who suffer from low self esteem as well as low self worth. As a community, peoples of African descent talk about their children being bombarded with negative influences all the time… While few of them recognize that a problem exists, an easy solution is not readily apparent. The Bennu Project book series is his contribution toward what he sees as a solution to the number one problem that plagues his community. The book itself is a metaphor for “ourstory,” told as science fiction, and tells the tale of a young man whose whole world has been overrun and oppressed by foreign invaders. When the man stumbles upon long forgotten knowledge, it opens up an entirely new perspective for him, along with everyone else on the planet who have no idea about their true heritage. Will he be able to use that knowledge to help advance and free his people?

Tired of seeing black faces depicted as criminals, cowardly or worse? As a people, it is time for those of African descent to do something about the way their children see themselves. The community must instill a sense of high self worth into the next generation. Otherwise, another generation of black men and women will come of age believing they were born to be no better than slaves, with no history beyond the triangle trade.

Tyrone believes that the first step to restoring what the global African presence has lost over the last three thousand years is to organize a unified front. To that end, he has been an active supporter of  Houston Unity Tribe, New Era Detroit and several other community based initiatives located in various cities.  He consistently encourages the fans of his book series to support these community based groups as often as they can. In his opinion, the second most important step is for the community to control their own narrative by owning their own media outlets and supporting black owned media at every opportunity. They must begin to use video and print media to help combat negative stereotypes that craft specific perceptions about black men, women and their families. That is what Tyrone hopes to achieve with this series. Please enjoy what he has created.

Read this one second!
I'm not a big fan of science fiction but I loved these books. Not because of the science but because of the plots and story lines that used the afrofuturism to tell a story about our history. I found myself enjoying my first science fiction book because of all the afrocentric history embedded into the book. You wont be disappointed if you read this series! This is the second book so read the other one first.
  • I didnt think it was possible but this one is just as good if not better than the first.
  • Just as with the first one, couldn't find it in a store, had to order it online
  • Everything from the first one tied in well with this one, No big loose ends or plot holes, lots of questions answered, more characters introduced, continued the theme of giving us historically accurate names dates and locations, MEDU NETER!
  • No ebook version yet, so you HAVE to wait for the hard copy
