Kalamazoo, Michigan is known as the Home of the Promise scholarship to help students fulfill their dreams. Kalamazoo has a history of local, national, and internationally-known history makers who lived out their dreams. Those such as New York Yankee Derek Jeter, NFL players such as TJ Duckett and Greg Jennings, along with performers and doctors such as Abbey Lincoln and Dr. Donna Hackley Powell. This book is just one in a series that highlights history-makers of Kalamazoo.
When celebrities are honored with an Oscar, Emmy, or Grammy, many of them thank the mentors who inspired them along with way. However, very little is often done to recognize those who broke glass ceilings to inspire others. In this coloring book series, we first start off with a tribute to African American women trailblazers of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
These women moved the bar a little higher to inspire others in areas of politics, entertainment, and education. Local entertainers such as Motown's Velvelettes, and Jazz great Abby Lincoln are featured in this interactive coloring book that serves to motivate others to recognize and celebrate the African American women in their communities who have been an inspiration!
